![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Overall, while this app isn't perfect across every metric, I really love using it and it has been working really well for our needs. The developers said they'd consider this for future updates. ![]() Growth recording is weirdly tucked away in its own interface that took me a little while to get used to.Ĭan't customize the start time of your day on your calendar (the calendar is pinned to go 12-12 and can't be adjusted to show your day as going, for example, 7-7 or 8-8). I emailed the developers about this and they said this feature is planned for a near-future update - but that was 2 months ago and no dice yet. There's no option to just have it give me a reminder at the same time every day, which is kind of nuts to me. If I forget and don't do it until bedtime one day, then the next reminder will be at 7pm. If I happen to give him medicine at 2pm, then the next day's reminder will be at 2pm. So, for example, if I want to give my baby medicine every day at noon, the only way that reminder function will work properly is if I actually do it right at noon and mark it. You have the option to either set a one-time reminder for a certain time (e.g., remind me to give baby medicine at 12:00pm tomorrow), or set a recurring reminder every X minutes/hours (e.g., remind me to give baby medicine every 24 hours), BUT the latter feature doesn't time it to a certain time, it does it based on the timing of the last logged event. The design of the reminder feature on the app is silly. The developers said they'd keep this feature in mind for future updates. Each breast gets logged as its own feed entry (or you have to manually just make a note that you switched in the notes for a feed). The app doesn't allow you to track a breastfeeding where you switch breasts (e.g., the baby was fed at 1pm, 10 minutes on left and 7 minutes on right). Plus, the vast majority of features are free. Relatively inexpensive premium subscription - $13/year, and multiple users in a family can share one subscription. The developers seem very responsive - they update the app frequently and respond quickly to email feedback. Growth charts to see your baby's progress against the general population by percentile I struggle to think of anything major that this app is missing relative to other apps (besides something like Huckleberry's sleep predictions) Hugely flexible homescreen that lets you order and add/remove the various events you want to track so that the things you care about are prioritized and easy to access. I frequently just yell at my phone to mark my baby's diapers as I'm changing him and it works without a hitch.Īllows you to attach photos to any event that you want that get stored in the app - e.g., you can log pictures of weird poops or whatever and they get stored in the app for you to come back to later. Google Assistant integration - this is a total gamechanger for me. Ongoing events (like feedings/naps) show up as a persistent notification on my Android phone, making it really easy to stop them without having to fiddle too much with the app. And it's more consistent than anything else I've tried. It's not 100% flawless, sometimes one user needs to close the app and re-open it to force it to sync with the other, but this is rare and not a huge bother when it does occur - the vast majority of the time it works exactly as intended. This real-time syncing feature across multiple users works excellently - the best of any app I've tried. Support for simultaneous syncing of events across multiple users (i.e., one parent can start tracking a feed or a nap on their phone, and the ongoing feed/nap will show up on the other parent's phone as well, allowing them to start/stop/pause it in progress). I don't think anybody would open up this app and think it is ugly or unprofessional (although potentially a little busy for some tastes). Not quite as clean and attractive as Huckleberry, with more information density, but feels more polished and attractive than, for example, Baby Tracker. Given that we had ongoing frustrations with all the others, we decided to give it a shot - and voila! It has become our go-to baby tracking app, and I highly, highly recommend it, especially for parents on Android (and maybe iOS too I just don't know how some of the features I love best about it work on that platform). In the comments, /u/chaiteaforthesoul recommended another app I hadn't seen yet - Baby Daybook. At the time, I explained that all were pretty good apps with some pros and cons, but for us Baby Tracker was probably going to be the best solution. I posted my experiences with three newborn tracking apps - Huckleberry, Glow, and Baby Tracker - a couple of months ago here. ![]() ![]() ![]() Lacking organisation features, it's not much use to professionals as a full workflow solution. It has a delightful, easy-to-use interface. Luminar Neo is a quirky tool that's got a lot going for it. Finally, Dust Spot Removal only worked for us around 50 per cent of the time. However, we weren't convinced that either was a particularly useful way of making edits, compared with more traditional tools. Structure AI, which allows the adjusting of image detail and clarity, worked well enough, as did Relight AI, which finds the subject in a photo and adjust the light in both the foreground and background. ![]() Thirdly, not all the software's AI tools impressed us in the same way as the three we've detailed above. And you need to apply the Preset before applying any other edits, or it will override them. Specifically, you can't inspect or edit the settings: you either apply them or you don't. Secondly, the way Presets are handled is quite limiting. In short, if you're dealing with a lot of photos, and need to access them quickly and easily – especially in a professional capacity – you'll probably need something like Lightroom instead. Neither can you do much with the companion app, other than use it to load up images. And while you can sort your images based on capture time, edit time, file name, file size and file type, you can't sort them based on location. You can't add keywords or captions, for example. But it's just as important to know what it doesn't include.įirstly, it's very light on organisational tools. Thus far, we've focused on the cool things that Luminar Neo offers. To our minds, these three AI tools performed brilliantly, and depending on your needs, one or more of them may well justify the price of Luminar Neo by themselves. Plus, when you've got an image that you're just not sure how to crop, it does take the decision out of your hands and help you move on. However, it does save you vital seconds, and if you're cropping hundreds of images in one sitting, that time saving can add up. More experienced photographers should know how to crop their shots, of course. It does exactly what it says, in a single click. The best of these is Remove powerlines, which appears under the Erase tab. What's special about Luminar Neo, though, are the specially designed AI tools. You can crop your shots, use layers, and play with exposure, saturation, smart contrast, highlights, shadows, blacks & whites, curves, colour balance, contrast, sharpness, noise reduction, optics… all the usual stuff, basically. They include all the basic image editing tools you'd expect to find in paid-for software aimed at non-professionals. ![]() The latter are organised into four sections (Essentials, Creative, Portrait and Professional). Luminar Neo has three modes: Catalog, for viewing your images, Presets, for applying presets to them, and Edit, for using in-built tools. Basically, you download a free companion app (Luminar Share) to your phone, scan in a QR code from your desktop computer, and then follow the steps. Once we'd got beyond that initial hiccup, this was pretty straightforward and quick to do. The thing we were trying to do at the time was wirelessly import pictures from our smartphone. This is a pretty unusual way to organise a menu, and we only realised it was there by Googling. There was one exception to this: we didn't realise that a bunch of menu items can only be accessed by clicking on the logo in the top-left corner. ![]() ![]() ![]() Stuart and others ( Reference Stuart, Murray, Brisbourne, Styles and Toon2005) describe resonances from water-filled fractures close to the glacier base during a surge at Bakaninbreen, Svalbard, and West and others ( Reference West, Larsen, Truffer, O'Neel and LeBlanc2010) emphasize the similarity between glacial fracture resonances within Bering Glacier, Alaska, and fluid chambers during an eruption of Augustine Volcano, Alaska. Passive seismic observations of such resonances in the cryosphere have often been attributed to resonant water-filled fractures: Anandakrishnan and Alley ( Reference Anandakrishnan and Alley1997) and Winberry and others ( Reference Winberry, Anandakrishnan and Alley2009) found narrow-banded seismic tremor signals from the bed of MacAyeal and Kamb ice streams, Antarctica, respectively, whereas Métaxian and others ( Reference Métaxian, Araujo, Mora and Lesage2003) detected low-frequency seismic signals from resonant water-filled ice cavities on the flanks of Cotopaxi Volcano, Ecuador. Some studies attribute similar resonance observations in other geological contexts to an intrinsic resonance of hydraulic fractures (Aki and others, Reference Aki, Fehler and Das1977) while other studies explain such observations as wave propagation effects (Bean and others, Reference Bean2014). These recordings often show resonances, whose interpretation is challenging (Clarke, Reference Clarke2005 Podolskiy and Walter, Reference Podolskiy and Walter2016). Therefore numerous studies either concentrate on point measurements directly at the glacier bed through boreholes, or on recordings of signals emitted from hydraulic events acquired with passive seismic techniques. ![]() Despite this importance, it is inherently difficult to observe processes at the glacier bed. Subglacial hydrology exerts a significant control on glacier flow. We demonstrate that high-frequency observations of subglacial hydraulic processes provide new insights into this evolving dynamic system. Using both the resonance frequencies and attenuation of recorded crack waves we estimate thickness, aperture and length of the resonating basal water layer patch into which we drilled. Our borehole observations confirm the occurrence of both sound and crack waves within the basal water layer. Long-wavelength resonances, in contrast, experience restoring forces due to elasticity and are composed of anomalously dispersed crack waves or Krauklis waves. Within such structures, short-wavelength waves experience restoring forces due to compressibility and are composed of sound waves. ![]() We apply a previously established theory of wave propagation along thin, water-filled structures such as water-filled voids, basal water layers, or hydraulic fractures. Here, we explore these mechanics using observations from a kHz-sampled pressure sensor installed in a borehole directly above the hard granite bedrock of a temperate mountain glacier in Switzerland. Within the subglacial system, rapid changes in these processes may excite resonances whose interpretation requires an understanding of the underlying wave mechanics. Hydraulic processes within and beneath glacial bodies exert a far-reaching control on ice flow through their influence on basal sliding. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is Dimitrov’s second straight tournament quarterfinal he advanced to the semifinals in San Diego two weeks ago and has won six of his last seven matches.
